Create Dangerously

This book includes three essays by Camus.
Camus talks about the responsibility of an artist to take a stand and not be silent. To create dangerously by speaking the truth through his art. In the other two essays, he talks about intelligence and freedom. It’s a short and interesting read.

Some of my favorite quotes:
“Our era forces us to take an interest in it. The writers of today know this. If they speak up, they are criticized and attacked. If they become modest and keep silent, they are vociferously blamed for their silence.”

“Today everything is changed and even silence has dangerous implications.”

“To create today is to create dangerously.”

“The doubt felt by the artists who preceded us concerned their own talent. The doubt felt by artists of today concerns the necessity of their art, hence their very existence.”
