Crime and Punishment

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Few of my favorite quotes from the book-
“Pain and suffering are always inevitable for a large intelligence and a deep heart. The really great men must, I think, have great sadness on earth.”
“To go wrong in one’s own way is better than to go right in someone else’s.”

The story is about Raskolnikov, a college student who believes he is superior to human beings and hence brutally murders a woman. The story is about hating the mere existence of humans and clearly shows us the indifference of social-economic class. Justifying murder and gaining redemption and love. It tells you more about the psychology of criminals.
There are many characters in this story whose personality is directly opposite to Raskolnikov and his alter ego.
The book is like reading the beliefs of characters for life. You can feel exactly what the character is thinking because the author has described it so well. You will feel pity for every character.
I am in love with Fyodor Dostoyevsky. This book covers topics such as superiority, existentialism, philosophy, psychology and personality disorders.
This book may be disturbing for some people. But for an existentialist like me, this book is amazing!
It’s a long and heavy read. One needs a lot of patience to keep going.

  1. Amazing review… Looking forward to more. Person like me who is not an active book reader but who still believes every book has a very meaningful story to tell. This is very insightful.
